Swayambhunath stupa is said to be 2500 years old, and is allied with the visit of Manjushree, who apparently made Kathmandu city by draining water from an ancient lake. It is positioned at a hill four kilometers away from Kathmandu. Swayambhunath is also considered as a central pilgrimage center and the hub of art, architecture, religion and culture of Mahayana Buddhism. To get to the top of the stupa one has to climb 365 steps. The statues of Buddha adorn the four corners of the stupa.
